Sale of Peat is Destruction of our Countryside Peat is used in most retail composts, but this practice must not continue, because destroying peat bogs will lead to the extinction of hundreds of rare species and will increase the speed of climate change.

I urge you to follow the lead set by national retail chains, including B&Q, Homebase, Focus/Do-It-All and Wyevale, to encourage your customers to buy peat-free composts and phase out your peat sales altogether.

Information on peat-free gardening is available from the Royal Horticultural Society, Kew Gardens, the National Trust and Gardening Which?. I encourage you to help your customers change their buying habits and let them know how to find this information. Thank you
